Bucking the Old System! One Library’s Koha Migration Experience - Roseman University Library is currently undergoing the Koha migration process with a go live date of June 24. The libraries serve students, faculty and staff of Roseman University of Health Sciences. Roseman University is a private, non-profit institute with campuses in Henderson, Nevada and South Jordan, Utah. The university has a College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, College of Dental Medicine and an MBA program.
This program will highlight our reasons for moving away from a proprietary ILS, why we chose to hire a support vendor for Koha, preparation before migrating, a summary of the migration process, lessons learned, and the importance of balancing communications with library staff, vendors, and users.

Best Practices for Deploying Koha - At Catalyst, we've deployed a few Koha systems here and there, and as we've done so, we've learnt a few things on the way about ways to keep the servers running, along with a few things that we'd like to do given the chance. This talk is going to cover these, so that people deploying and managing Koha installations can have theirs run that little bit more smoothly.

Libki, A Free Open Source Kiosk Management System - I would love the opportunity to demo Libki. It is a cross platform FOSS kiosk management system specifically written for libraries to use to limit the amount of time patrons can use public access computers in an automated fashion. It is cross platform, running on any OS that is supported by Qt4. Libki has been used in production on both Windows and Linux. Libki can share logins with Koha for single sign-on with Koha.

Next Generation Catalog With Reference to VuFind - With the information explosion, the literature in any subject is increasing not only in volume but also in variety. Today, a typical library has to manage the following information sources: library physical holdings, digital repository, electronic journals, web and other e‐resources. Each of these resources has different web interface, making it difficult to a user to learn all the interface and also time consuming to search a particular information. By offering a one-stop resource that allows the patron access to all of the library’s materials from one place, the library can truly begin to leverage its resources and deliver them to its patrons more effectively. Discovery tools make it possible to search multiple resources with one query. Selecting discovery tool like VuFind will enable a library to offer access to all of its resources in one single search-and-browse system.
4:15-5pm David Cook (Prosentient Systems)
Integrating Koha and DSpace - In today's Internet world, the management and discovery of digital content are becoming increasingly important parts of providing relevant library services.
As a result, digital libraries (also known as repositories or information asset management systems) such as DSpace, Greenstone, ContentDM, and Fedora have arisen to provide standards-based methods for storing digital documents and their associated metadata.
Since Koha already stores and provides access to a multitude of metadata supplied by cataloguers and vendors of physical and electronic materials, the obvious next step is to link it with the metadata stored in these separate digital library systems.
In this presentation, we'll talk about a few different methods of exporting metadata from DSpace and into Koha so as to provide a centralized interface for searching and retrieving all the relevant materials to which that library has access. We will discuss how to transform the metadata from Dublin Core and into MARCXML so that it can be stored in Koha and indexed by Zebra.
After all, we cannot expect our users to query several different information management systems. We need to provide a one-stop interface for discovery.

Yes, but what have you done for me lately? - So you got this new library system, no license fees! no limitations on usage! Freedom to change it! Wow too good to be true almost.
Now I've got this great gift, what can I do to show my appreciation .. how can I spread the word and help others?

Open Source ERMs and GoKB - Management of acquisition, licensing, and access to subscription based electronic resources is a challenging for many libraies with the resources for proprietary ERMs. For those that want to have meaningful input into how their ERM works, the black box is a source of great frustraion. For those who cannot afford such interfaces, it can seem impossible. I will present available open source electronic resource management systems (ERMes and CORAL) and GoKB, a forthcoming, freely available knowledge base "that will contain publication information about electronic resources as it is represented within the supply chain from content publishers to suppliers to libraries." How can these open source ERMs be used in tandem with Koha? How can GoKB be repurposed to use with these tools? Is building an ERM into Koha reasonable or feasible?

This is how you can Test and Sign-off on bugs -
Here's the thought.
1) Paul demos how to use the sandboxes... Basic entry for all to use and try..
2) Chris demo's how to use git bz or even just apply the code with git am and other git tricks.. - we are getting a little bit more complex here... It could even be here's the dashboard and here's how you navigate through the important bugs in BZ (instead of git work - that could be saved for hackfest) how does one know what the important bugs are and what could I do when volunteering to really help Koha....
3) Jared talks about the things that you want to be looking for when you are signing off on a bug. Sort of tying together the last two topics presented... IE does the test plan make sense - is there anything that is outside of the scope of this bug? what big picture things should testers/sign-offers be thinking about." 45 minutes Experienced Koha User, Koha Developer, Developer New to Koha

Serials management on a shoestring: Marlboro College’s experience with CUFTS & GODOT - Would your library like to spend more on online resources for your patrons? Learn how Marlboro College is leveraging open-source software to provide access to more online journals and better access to these journals without spending more over all. In the fall of 2010, Marlboro College switched to CUFTS for journal management and implemented the Godot open-url link resolver to help students and faculty more efficiently navigate the world of online journals. Learn about the strengths and weaknesses of these systems from the perspective of a librarian and a developer and consider how Koha might get more involved in supporting journal management.

Do we want summat with the LiveDVD after all of this drama, and since an email described a request at Edinburgh? That was a request to hand over a LiveDVD, which I didn't have on my person ... but maybe a session on why installation is not the end of looking after Koha, you need to know how to maintain it too wouldn't hurt --Chris 15:41, 23 May 2013 (EDT)
