Proposals period
As of 2020, conference must be either hybrid with an in-person conference streamed online, or entirely online.
For hybrid conferences, the rules for continent rotation apply. Therefore, for 2022, the following continents are eligible:
- Africa
- Americas (north, central and south)
- Europe
A full online conference will not make its continent ineligible for hosting an in-person or hybrid conference the following years.
Bidding has been extended to 28 February, 2022 23:59 UTC (date and time in your time zone)
See Processes for KohaCon for rules previously established for proposal eligibility, voting, etc.

koha-US Proposal
Special note
koha-US had already begun its process for selecting a conference location for our 2022 conference when we were asked to consider submitting a bid to host or co-host or otherwise incorporate KohaCon22 into our annual conference. Between February 16 and February 28, 2022, koha-US members will be voting between having a hybrid conference in Lawrence, Kansas, (September 20-23) or a fully online conference (September 13-16). Per the koha-US bylaws, members will be voting on these two proposals via Survey Monkey between February 16 and February 28 - anyone in the world can join and vote (http://koha-us.org/join/). We will have a final location picked by February 28 and announced by March 1.
Whichever conference is chosen, koha-US would be happy to incorporate the KohaCon22 into our conference - whether it be in Lawrence, Kansas, or Online only.
If koha-US members vote for Online only, we would be happy to work together with Kohala or any other users groups to facilitate a cross-timezone event.
Every koha-US conference since 2017 has had an online component and many presentations from past conferences are available on our YouTube page at:
- 2017 2017 playlist
- 2019 2019 playlist
- 2020 2020 playlist
- 2021 2021 playlist
We feel that, if the Koha community wants us to incorporate KohaCon22 into our annual conference, we can accommodate that request whether it be a hybrid conference in Lawrence, Kansas, or a fully online conference.

- Website: koha-us.org
- Email: conferences@koha-us.org
- Venue: To be determined by a vote of koha-US members (voting from February 16-28 - announcement of results by March 1)
- Proposal Website: TBA after the koha-US voting is finished
Format
To be determined by a vote of the koha-US members - the vote will take place between February 16 and February 28 with a planned announcement of results by March 1
Proposed dates for the conference
September 13-16 (online only)
September 20-23 (Lawrence, KS // hybrid conference)
(koha-US recognizes that the dates for Lawrence are closer to the Rosh Hashanah dates for 2022 than preferable, but those dates were worked out before we were asked to consider incorporating KohaCon22 into the conference)
Information for a fully online conference
If koha-US members vote for a fully online conference, koha-US will work with the rest of the Koha community in ironing out the details for a fully online cross-timezone conference. Mostly we've found that this will require at least 4 people working on Zoom in 3-4 hour shifts to manage the Zoom room, coordinate the speakers, and manage the chat on YouTube Live.

COVID considerations:
In Kansas the power to institute a mask mandate is delegated to local county and city health departments. The Lawrence/Douglas Joint County Health Department currently has a mask mandate in place, but we don't know what will happen in September. It is likely that if there is another COVID surge, there will be an indoor mask mandate for public areas in September.
Weather/Environment:
Tornado season should be over by September. September in Kansas is usually warm and mild without being super-hot and humid like it can be in August. It is unusual to have smoke from forest fires in Kansas, particularly in September.
